Tereza Červeňová, With and For, 2020-21. Survey II is led by Jerwood Arts in collaboration with g39 and Site Gallery.

Survey II launches at Site Gallery in Sheffield

08 March 2022

Our major national partnership exhibition Survey II will launch for its final presentation on 12 March.

Survey II showcases new commissions by ten of the most exciting early-career artists from across the UK, providing a distinctive snapshot of current artistic concerns and approaches. The exhibiting artists are Saelia Aparicio, Tereza Červeňová, Sadé Mica, Rebecca Moss, Cinzia Mutigli, Katarzyna Perlak, Shenece Oretha, Tako Taal, Nicolaas van de Lande and Angharad Williams.

Previously shown at g39 in Cardiff and Jerwood Space in London, the exhibition explores a wide range of subjects but at its core is a common preoccupation with how we relate to each other and the world around us. For its final showing at Site Gallery from 12 March – 5 June 2022, the works which include sculpture, photography, textiles, and moving-image, will be reimagined across the galleries curated by Angelica Sule, Programme Director.

A new publication will be available for the first time alongside the exhibition, printed in a limited run of 400 copies. Edited by Harriet Cooper, Head of Visual Arts at Jerwood Arts, it features new writing from 10 artists, writers, and curators each invited to respond creatively to an individual artist’s work. Contributors include Elise Bell, Angela YT Chan, Cairo Clarke, Leo Hermitt, Dylan Huw, Helen Nisbet, Eliel Jones, Thomas Moore, Jamila Prowse, and Kandace Siobhan Walker.

Harriet Cooper, Head of Visual Arts, Jerwood Arts said, “Survey II brings together new work by some of the most compelling early-career artists working in the UK today. One of the most exciting things about this project is that we can support artists to evolve, develop and understand their work as they present it to new audiences across the UK through the national tour. We are so pleased to have been able to work with such an ambitious and talented group of artists on Survey II, and to be in conversation with them about their practice over the last two years. I look forward to seeing the presentation at Site Gallery in Sheffield, and how the works will come together in this new setting.”

Established by Jerwood Arts in 2018, Survey II is the second edition of a group exhibition that presents new work from some of the most outstanding artists in the first stages of their careers in the UK. It continues to take a non-institutional approach to selection by inviting over 30 leading artists from across the UK to nominate who they think are the most exciting and dynamic early-career artists making work today. The nominators who have chosen the exhibiting artists include Jonathan Baldock, Jamie Crewe, Sean Edwards, Jade Montserrat, Heather Phillipson, Joanna Piotrowska, Tai Shani, Emily Speed, Wood and Harrison, and Zadie Xa.
