Emma Baker

Emma Baker’s training as a glassmaker underpins her artistic practice.

With a focus on materiality and process, she works with themes of narrative and sentiment to create artworks in glass.

Emma draws inspiration from profound personal experiences and the celebration of memories. Using glass as a canvas, her works can be both aesthetically literal and abstract, enticing the viewer to look deeper and enquire further. Recently she has been exploring ways of utilising the inherent behaviours of glass to immortalise memories of significant times.

In 2020 she has exhibited at Crafts Council’s Collect, London and undertaken a two-month residency at S12 Bergen, Norway. She is involved in ongoing international projects supported by British Council Scotland and Creative Europe.

Emma’s Jerwood Bursary will enable her to undertake a period of exploration into the possibilities and opportunities of working with mass-produced glass.
