Martha Hill

Northern musician Martha Hill makes alt-pop that is both hard hitting and catchy.

Tipped as one of BBC Introducing’s ones to watch for 2020, last year saw the release of her second EP Summer Up North, with singles Grilled Cheese and Landslide playlisted on BBC 6 Music, as well as Grilled Cheese being named BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week, receiving a week of airtime on Radio 1.

Martha Hill left her home on the west coast of Scotland aged 17 to busk her way around Europe, before settling down in Newcastle and throwing herself into the UK music scene. The Live Work Fund will enable Martha to invest time and resources into developing new skills as a music producer, create new work and methods of collaboration, thrive creatively under Covid-19 restrictions, and support the creative community in her region. Throughout 2021 and beyond Martha will be building a collaborative community for female musicians based in the North East of England, to help combat the gender imbalance within the music industry.
