Rowland Hill

Rowland Hill is an artist based in Manchester. She was awarded the 2017 Clare Winsten Memorial Award from The Slade, where she recently graduated with a Masters in Fine Art. In the past year she has received funding from a-n to learn British Sign Language and exhibited / performed at Raven Row, and The Bomb Factory , London;  Organon, Denmark; The Holden Gallery, Manchester; and The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, LA.

Her work explores how power operates on the body through gestural and choreographic regimes. Outcomes are playful, project dependent and take hybrid forms across installation, live performance, video, audio, and text.

Rowland’s Jerwood Bursary will support a period of research and professional consultancy towards the making of an artist book (print and digital), which is an adaptation of a pre-existing solo performance entitled Interjectional Exercises which incorporates BSL, English and historical phonetic systems.
