Hear artist Guy Oliver discuss You Know Nothing of My Work his commission for Jerwood/FVU Awards 2020: Hindsight with award-winning writer and journalist Rachel Cooke.

This online event has been developed in collaboration with the artist and gives you a chance to hear from them and a special guest speaker; providing an insight into the ideas and processes behind the works in the exhibition.

About the artist’s guest

Rachel Cooke is an award-winning journalist. She is a writer and columnist at the Observer and the television critic of the New Statesman. Her essays have been broadcast on Radio 3, most recently the five-part series The Odd Woman. Her book, Her Brilliant Career: Ten Extraordinary Women of the Fifties, is published by Virago. She is working on a new book, The Reckoning, which explores ideas around bad behaviour and good art.

About the artist

Guy Oliver (b. 1982, London) lives and works in Margate. He graduated from the Royal College of Art (MA Painting) in 2015, and his interdisciplinary practice employs video as well as text, painting, collage and performance. Recent solo exhibitions include And You Thought I Was Bad?, Zabludowicz Collection, London (2018), Live From San Quentin, Random Access Gallery, Syracuse, New York (2018) and Did You Think I’d Leave You Dying?, Chalton Gallery, London (2017). Recent group exhibitions and screenings include Don’t Touch Me, Newcombe House, London (2020), Virtual Cocoons, Specter, online (2020), Culture Caveat, Art Night, London (2020), The Generation of Choice, Gern En Regalia, New York (2018), Rebel Souls, Daata Editions, Art Rio, Rio De Janeiro (2018), Newstalgia! The Austrian Cultural Forum, London (2018), Collective Failure, J Hammond Projects, London (2018) and Staging Series, Jerwood Space, London (2017).


Format

The conversation will last for approximately one hour, it will be pre-recorded and broadcast as a podcast as well as being available as a written transcript. Attendees will receive an email with exclusive event materials and links to the online exhibition shortly before the event starts.
