Inside Out Dorset 2021

From Friday 17 – Sunday 26 September 2021, Inside Out Dorset is an international outdoor arts festival that returns to wow audiences this September.

Expect live performance in unexpected places – in town centres, by the sea, on hilltops and in woodland – for everyone to enjoy. Some of Dorset’s most remarkable urban and rural spots will be transformed with experiences that touch hearts and minds like nothing else. One of this year’s highlights includes artist Luke Jerram’s Gaia. Marvel at an awe-inspiring sculpture of the Earth hidden in the woods at Moors Valley Country Park & Forest and Symondsbury Estate. Capture the imaginations of little ones at family-friendly circus shows in Poole and Christchurch. And see Weymouth come to life at night with world-famous drummers and giant puppets.

Jerwood Arts are proud to be supporting artists Lorna Rees and Dave Young who will develop, create and perform site responsive pieces to engage audiences in the rural landscape.

Lorna Rees will create Geophonic, a performance and sound walk, encouraging audiences to listen to the geological processes of the Earth. Audiences will use custom-made, recycled plastic geophones, akin to large gramophone horns, to listen to different points on a journey guided by four performers.

Dave Young (The Shouting Mute) will collect stories from the farming and rural community, focussing on their relationship with the landscape, their views on climate change and the impact on their local environment. He will create a new poem for every person he interviews, a performance and a sound installation. This commission is also supported by Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Artful Scribe.
