Jerwood Arts awardees join the Horizon Showcase 2023 artist line-up

Demi Nandhra, Figs in Wings and Ray Young feature in the line-up for this year’s Horizon Showcase.

Horizon is one of four showcase programmes of work from the four UK nations at the Edinburgh Festivals. Selecting exceptional, stand-out performance created in England which is ready for international distribution, Horizon catalyses opportunities for artists towards international touring and commissioning. Its approach is to create a supportive showcase environment in which artists and presenters can engage equally and equitably.

Horizon artists will perform in person in a variety of traditional and non-traditional venues in Edinburgh with art forms including theatre, dance, live art, and a number of durational experiences.

The full line-up has been announced as Action Hero & Deborah Pearson, Brook Tate, BULLYACHE, Demi Nandhra, Figs in Wigs, The Javaad Alipoor Company, Haranczak/Navarre Performance Projects, Rachel Mars, Raquel Meseguer Zafe, and Ray Young.

Demi Nandhra is an award-winning artist and writer based in Birmingham, currently supported through Jerwood New Work Fund 2022. Demi produces work that sits within the realms of contemporary theatre, live art, socially engaged projects and screenwriting. She focuses on themes such as mental health, trauma, oppression, relationships, and care.

Figs in Wigs make semi-epic, genre-bending performance that sits somewhere just outside of live art, music, theatre, comedy, and dance. Previously they have been supported through Jerwood Arts’ Live Work Fund.

Ray Young is an award-winning interdisciplinary performance artist and writer based between London and Nottingham. Ray’s practice is socially engaged and exists on the boundaries between live art, dance, and contemporary theatre. Ray was also supported through Jerwood Arts’ Live Work Fund.

Horizon showcase runs from 21 – 27 August at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Full programme details are coming soon, find out more.
