Jerwood Visual Arts Alumna Heather Philipson has been shortlisted for the fourth plinth commission

This page was made some time ago and may contain information which is now out of date

She is the sole British artist on the list and is proposing a work titled The End. A giant fibreglass model of a dessert being eaten by a fly, with a camera drone flying overhead. Onlookers will be able to watch the live feed on their phone or tablet, taking the place of that omnipresent eye. The work touches on ideas of both surveillance and broadcast.

THE END is on view at the National Gallery, London, until 27 March 2017 alongside the four other nominated works  by Huma Bhabha, Damián Ortega, Michael Rakowitz and Shuddha Sengupta of the Raqs Media Collective,
