Outburst Arts announces TONGUE + HEART: The Outburst / Jerwood Queer Artists Programme

Outburst Arts has today announced that it will be launching a new programme for up to four queer artists living in Northern Ireland, to develop their practice through a 15-month programme from 2022-23.

TONGUE + HEART: The Outburst / Jerwood Queer Artists Programme, will be shaped by the vision and needs of the performance makers selected, in collaboration with Outburst’s creative team. The programme may include matching the artists with mentors, sharing ideas and works in development, or providing queer critique and tailored workshops.

Each artist will receive a £4000 fee to participate in the programme, which will see them develop their work towards live presentation at Outburst Queer Arts Festival in November 2023, with additional support for production.

The programme is open to early to mid-career artists (minimum two years’ experience) who are already working in live queer performance of any kind. The selection will be through a simple open call and conversation process, with applications open from Thursday 1 September 2022.

Outburst has been a safe space for dangerous ideas in queer performance for almost 16 years. The team love the vital energy of queer performance makers who take brilliant risks in their work and are committed to supporting more opportunities for them to step into their radical potential.

“We’re truly thrilled to be supporting Outburst Arts to run this carefully crafted, artist-centred programme that will bring new work by Northern Ireland’s most exciting performance makers to national and international attention.” Jerwood Arts, August 2022
