Inside Out Dorset 2021

Activate works with artists to create extraordinary experiences in Dorset and across the UK. We produce programmes and outdoor arts events that change lives, create unforgettable memories and celebrate our unique part of the world. Two new site responsive works in the rural landscape as part of Activate’s biennial festival Inside Out Dorset

The work Jerwood Arts is supporting will feature in its biennial festival Inside Out Dorset in September 2021. Artists Lorna Rees and Dave Young will develop, create and perform site-responsive pieces to engage audiences in the rural landscape.

Lorna Rees will create Geophonic, a performance and sound walk, encouraging audiences to listen to the geological processes of the Earth. Audiences will use custom-made, recycled plastic geophones, fashioned like large gramophone horns, to listen to points on a guided journey.

Dave Young (The Shouting Mute) will collect stories from the farming and rural community, focussing on their relationship with the landscape, their views on climate change and the impact on their local environment. He will create a new poem for every person he interviews, and create a performance, as well as an installation with a soundscape. This commission is also supported by Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Artful Scribe.
