Gate Theatre

Jerwood Designers

The Gate has long had a reputation as having one of the most versatile studio spaces in London, perfect for young designers to explore possibilities and stretch the limited space available. From 2001 to 2021 Jerwood Designers gave outstanding early career designers the opportunity to work on productions in the versatile space of the Gate Theatre in Notting Hill. Supporting up and coming theatre designers

The Jerwood Designers scheme enabled three designers each year to expand their experience through taking central roles in Gate Theatre productions, fulfilling demanding design briefs that always stretched the Gate’s performance space. They also had the chance to work with some of the finest directors and writers working in theatre, an experience which is invaluable in establishing reputation and contacts.

The support which the scheme provides in both nurturing talent and offering the opportunity of practical experience has been instrumental in launching the careers of some of the country’s most exciting theatrical designers including Chloe Lamford, Soutra Gilmour, Tom Scutt, and Rosie Elnile.

The Gate Theatre has now relocated to Theatro Technis in Camden
