New work by Kelly Best and Georgie Grace, presented across three exhibition moments in 2015.

Kelly Best’s practice is rooted in drawing, through which she unpicks the relationship between form, perspective, colour and void. Across the three exhibitions Kelly explores different approaches and configurations of large scale wall structures with the repeated gesture of pale vertical lines drawn across the surface, playing with perspective.

Georgie Grace’s practice occupies a space somewhere between still and moving image. Her interest in the intangible quality of digital reading and the shifting surfaces of the screen are questioned through her silent film works comprising found imagery and text. Across the three exhibitions she presents an evolving series of new works touching on ideas put forward by futurologists and technological entrepreneurs.

The two artists were selected from over 90 applications in response to an open call to UK-based artists belonging to Eastside Projects’ Extra Special People associates scheme and g39’s Wales Artist Resource Programme (WARP). Each artist receives a fee, production budget and ongoing curatorial and practical support from Eastside Projects, g39 and Jerwood Visual Arts throughout the year-long programme. New work developed over the year is shown through three exhibition moments, solo shows in Birmingham and Cardiff and a two-person show in London.

Jerwood Encounters: 3-Phase is a one-off initiative, exploring a new model for working in partnership to support the development of recent graduates’ work over a sustained period of time.
