Alex Billingham and Rosanna Cook

Please tell us who you are and what you’ve been working on recently.

We are Alex Billingham and Rosanna Cook. Alex works in Live Art, experimental film and theatre. Alex is currently developing a new one person touring show called Milk & Honey. Rosanna works mainly in dance, performance and mental health.

What drew you to each other’s practice?

AB: I had asked Rosanna to be a performer for a commission by the Birmingham Hippodrome and found that we worked really well together. There is a natural crossover as I wanted to explore movement and dance as an artist with a disabled body and Rosanna was interested in how dance manifests in non-dancers bodies.

How will you use the 1:1 FUND?

We’re planning to use the fund to spend a couple of days away exploring how our practices can intermingle and where movement sits in different bodies. We are going to the sea as both being from the West Midlands, the healing power of the sea is much needed after the last two years of Covid.

Why did you choose the idea you will be working on?

There was a really natural crossover between our two practices and we were both thinking about how to approach this shared space. When the opportunity came up it felt a perfect time to explore this space.

What is the one thing you most hope to gain from undertaking this work?

We both want to expand our existing practices as dance and Live Art have a lot of crossover, while being totally different. I think the main thing will be to discover new ways of working and supporting each other.
