Benjamin Tassie

Benjamin Tassie is a composer of Electroacoustic music working at the intersection of contemporary-classical and experimental pop scenes. He was British Music Collection’s New Voice 2015 composer, won the Saboteur Award 2015 for Best Collaborative Work, won the Hermes Experiment Non-classical Graphic Score competition and was a finalist in the Britten Sinfonia’s OPUS2014 scheme with Huw Watkins.

Benjamin’s Jerwood Bursary will enable him to develop his writing for analogue synthesisers and operatic voices. He will undertake a period of research and exploration at Studio 6, London, experimenting with the studio’s vast collection of instruments, which will culminate in collaboration with singers Ella Taylor and Héloïse Werner.

Benjamin’s composition will focus on exploratory work for an upcoming ecological opera with poet Jacqueline Saphra, developed previously with Wild Plum Arts on a Britten Pears Foundation residency.
