Rebekah Ubuntu

Rebekah Ubuntu is a multidisciplinary sound artist. Their practice explores speculative fiction through electronic music, sound art, voice, performance, installation, songwriting and the moving image.

Most recently, Tate Modern commissioned Rebekah to create ‘Despair, Hope and Healing’, an audiovisual performance exploring climate justice in response to the Olafur Eliasson exhibit. In tandem with this performance, Tate Modern’s Uniqlo Lates invited them to discuss the influence of Afrofuturism in their work.

Rebekah will use the Jerwood Bursary to fund specialised training in electronic beat-making using Ableton Live. This training will expand their practice by granting them time to research and experiment with rhythms from different genres under the bespoke mentorship of an experienced beat-maker.
