Sita Thomas

Sita Thomas is a multidisciplinary director and presenter with a PhD examining casting and representation in productions of Shakespeare in the UK. She recently received an MGCfutures bursary and Arts Council of Wales funding to develop her verbatim music theatre production Queer Tales. Sita has directed We Are Shadows: Brick Lane (Tamasha), The Rose and the Bulbul (Stockwood Park, Horniman and Geffrye Museums) and short pieces for National Theatre, Rich Mix, Southwark Playhouse, RADA and Old Vic. She was staff director on Top Girls at the National Theatre and has assisted at Royal Court, Southbank Centre and Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Sita's Jerwood Bursary will enable her to develop her practice and understanding of verbatim theatre. She will research the history of verbatim productions, receive mentorship and consider best practice guidelines. Sita aims to work with the verbatim form to increase representation of diverse people, communities and stories on stage.
