Dramaturg in Residence

South East Dance is the national development organisation for dance in South East of England. In 2018 it will open The Dance Space, an ambitious new building in Brighton that is central to its vision to develop a home for choreographic research and development. Access to a specialist dance dramaturg for over 40 artists

Our support is for a three year programme which embeds a Dramaturg in Residence, Lou Cope, at the heart of the organisation. It will increase awareness and the use of dramaturgy amongst UK artists and develop South East Dance’s own knowledge of the practice.

In the first year of this programme Lou ran three intensive weekends for 34 artists to explore the role of the dramaturg, and 21 artists were selected from an open call to receive dramaturgical support for their work. An online hub for advice and support, The Red Line, was also launched.

Dance4 are also supporting the project.
