Chloe Knibbs

Chloe Knibbs is a composer and songwriter exploring storytelling, voice and music theatre. Her work is included in the British Music Collection, and has been performed at Birmingham New Street Station, Eastside Projects and Orkney Arts Festival.

Her practice has a focus on elevating sidelined stories and challenging existing perceptions of current issues, with a particular emphasis on feminist perspectives.

Chloe’s Jerwood Bursary will support a period of research and development, where she will consider options available for artistic comment that critique and reconsider how the female creative voice is framed within the history of classical music, including the ongoing ramifications that this has in contemporary music creation.

Her project The Female Creative Voice will draw on feminist musicology, electroacoustic composition and music theatre, including mentoring with Elizabeth de Brito, presenter of the first ever gender-equal radio show Daffodil Perspective, and will culminate in a workshop of the themes explored with singer Suzie Purkis.
