Lilli Geissendorfer

Director

My job is all about keeping my eyes on the horizon and ears on the ground, working with our team and freelancers to translate Jerwood Arts mission and values into day-to-day strategy, programmes and communications. I lead on creating new partnerships and designing new opportunities, work closely with our trustees and set the overall framework for all our activities.

I started in January 2018 with a vision for a more open, accessible, and national funder. Since then, I have worked with the team to reimagine our approach to funding for organisations and individuals, responded to the urgent needs of artists during the pandemic, and significantly increased our partnerships and national reach.

I believe in the power of artists to help us all navigate what it means to be human. I see my responsibility at Jerwood Arts as fundamentally about directing our resources as effectively as possible to support more of the most extraordinary artistic voices to find their way to greater expression and sustainable careers.

I am a trustee of Fuel, a mentor with Arts Emergency, an Advisor for the What Next? Leadership Group, and regularly take part in sector advisory groups, policy consultations and really enjoy chairing selection panels.

I studied social and political sciences and have an MA in Social Research, starting my career working on cultural policy in think tanks before becoming a theatre producer. Previous roles include Producer at the Almeida Theatre (2012-17) and Relationship Manager at Arts Council England (2010-12). I co-produced the first HighTide Festival in 2007, now an NPO, and in 2012 I was a Salzburg Forum Cultural Leadership Fellow and a Clore Emerging Leader.

I am a British-German dual national born in London. When I’m not travelling the UK to see our programmes and meet artists, I’m usually out on my bike. I live in Finsbury Park London with my partner and two children and spend time with wider family in Kent and Herefordshire.
