Dan’s Jerwood Bursary will fund a period of research into working class identities in ballet. In particular, this will focus on a story within his own family, referencing his great-uncle’s experience of class and masculinity. He will work with archives for the first time which will inform his own writing.
Dan Ryder
Dan is a writer from Doncaster whose practice is focused on community engagement via themes of place, family stories, trauma, roots, oral history, nature and post-industrial landscapes. In 2017 he curated a public poetry exhibition at the Frenchgate shopping centre in his hometown. In 2018 he was awarded the inaugural Writers by Nature scholarship from the British Council in Germany. He is co-founder of Wild West Press and creative producer at The Ted Hughes Project, South Yorkshire.
