Debris Stevenson

Debris Stevenson is a grime-poet, academic and dancehall dancing social activist. Her debut grime-musical, Poet in da Corner, premiered at The Royal Court in 2018.

Poet in da Corner, which Debris’ wrote with Grime MC, Jammz and stared in, received 4-5 stars across the board and saw Debris’ nominated for an Emerging Talent of The Year Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

Debris is working on a first draft of a new work The Write to Rave, a 4-8 track draft EP exploring the importance and defiance of being a woman raving sober and alone around the world. The Jerwood Bursary will support time and space to explore, take risks and develop new music as an MC capable not just in theatres but also on radio and in raves.

We supported Debris in 2018 through Poet in Da Corner which a co-commissioned by 14-18 NOW: WW1 Centenary Art Commissions and the Royal Court Theatre, supported by Jerwood Arts, in association with Nottingham Playhouse and Leicester Curve.
