Milk Presents

Making An Entrance

Milk Presents is a fiercely independent queer and trans artist-led theatre company, that aims to create real social and structural change - in fabulous ways. The company tours high quality accessible performance to a wide audience nationally and internationally, and partners with organisations to deliver training, workshops, development opportunities and forge queer dialogues.

Making An Entrance is a development programme for LGBTQIA+ identifying artists entering the industry and starting out in theatre and performance. It takes a nurturing approach to supporting artists who have not had access to higher education as they learn the skills needed for LGBTQIA+ people to bring their whole selves to their work.

Over the course of two years Milk Presents will work with four apprentices for seven weeks on an upcoming project, each with individual learning objectives with opportunities for research and development. The apprentices will shadow company members alongside professional projects, learning tangible skills for working in the independent theatre sector.

There is also an opportunity for a wider group of UK early-career artists to develop intensive and specialised skills through a paid rural residential retreat: SUMMER SUMMIT. Hosted in collaboration with The HopBarn, Summer Summit is  'a meeting of minds in the middle of the Midlands - a weekend festival to slay new skill sets and form new queer fam - it’s camp! (there will be camping...)

A national call-out will be announced in February 2020 and apprentices appointed in April 2020.  Applications for Summer Summit will open in April 2020

Making An Entrance is supported by Jerwood Arts and delivered in partnership with The HopBarn Centre for Music and Creative Performance and Midlands flagship artist development programme: In Good Company.
