CONFESSIONS: Considering Collaboration

25 Nov 2019

Jerwood Arts, 171 Union Street , London, SE1 0LN

CONFESSIONS is a programme of events led by Jerwood Arts which invites speakers and participants to use the underpinnings of ‘confessing’ to confront broader issues of private and public experiences of creative practices, in the hope of gesturing towards a more collective mode of working and discussing.

For this special Jerwood Collaborate! edition of CONFESSIONS artist duo Wood & Harrison confess the hilarities and calamities of working in a collaborative practice. They will be joined by Harriet Cooper, Head of Visual Arts and curator of Jerwood Collaborate!.

This event is for artists, curators and arts professionals to meet and express concerns, joys and demands around their practices.

  • Introduction and confessions from speakers
  • A facilitated discussion which invites attendees to express thoughts and issues around their practices
  • Further discussion between attendees

John Wood and Paul Harrison

John Wood (b.1969, Hong Kong) and Paul Harrison (b.1966, Wolverhampton) met in 1989 at the Bath College of Higher Education, and have worked together since 1993. Together they make single-channel videos, multi-screen video installations, prints, drawings, and sculptures that elegantly fuse aesthetic research with existential comedy. The artists’ spare, to-the-point works illustrate the triumphs and tribulations of making art and having a life. Wood and Harrison employ exuberant invention, subtle slapstick, and a touch of light-hearted melancholy to reveal the inspiration and perspiration — as well as the occasional hint of desperation — behind all creative acts.
